Woodcare – Cleaning Tips

Woodcare - cleaning woodWith woodcare in mind, below are some tips for cleaning wooden furniture and floors. Unless coated in laminate or some other plastic, all-purpose cleaning sprays should be avoided when cleaning wooden furniture. Cleaning with water should also be avoided however if necessary to remove sticky and stubborn stains, use with a mild soap or detergent on a lightly damp cloth. Once applied and cleaned, rinse and immediately dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.

Hardwood Floors

Cleaning hardwood floors is actually a lot easier than it may seem. Ideally, a stem cleaner provides the best results as it not only cleans but also sanitises. If you don’t have a steam cleaner then a mop that is only slightly dampened can be used. Using too much water when mopping will damage the wooden floor. Adding small amount of vinegar to the water used with the mop can help remove any potentially sticky and stubborn stains. Mopping in the direction of the grain of the wood is a good idea to as it will help with the finished appearance. Always remember to mop towards an exit of the room so you can allow the floor to try without treading over it.

To reduce cleaning time with wooden furnitures and floors, it is always better to have a woodcare finish such as a Timber Sealer or Decking Oil.
